Microair 760 VHF Communications Transceiver

Click Here for Larger Image This is arguably the world's smallest full featured VHF communications transceiver for aircraft. The Microair 760 is manufactured "Down Under", in Queensland Australia. Don't let its compact size fool you, the Microair 760 is packed with features that rival larger and more expensive models. Initially designed for the glider industry where size, weight and power consumption are important the Microair 760 was immediately accepted and installed into general aviation aircraft and kit aircraft where panel space and/or budgets are limited.

We've received a lot of questions . . . particularly, "Gee, is 4 watts enough?" The short answer is, "Yes". Click here for a review of the 760 by my friend Jim Wier. One of Jim's major complaints about this radio was the installation manual. I don't know if Microair has updated the manual since Jim's work was first published but it doesn't matter. The manual I just read STILL doesn't meet the Connection's requirements for providing an installer with clear, concise guidance. That's why we're working on our own version of the installation manual along with a pre-fabricated harness (see below). Microair's technical literacy may be wanting but their engineering and marketing accumen demonstrate an exemplary sense of performance and value.

Echoing Jim's sentiments at the end of his article, I'd consider this product as an excellent candidate for the #1 COMM slot in my airplane any day.

The JHP-520 is versatile, powerful and and rugged. One of the nicest hand-held transceivers available for the money and well received by the avionics industry. Click here to download a copy of the radio's operation manual.

Active/Standby Frequency Control. Like its panel mounted cousins, a simple push of a button toggles operation between the active and standby frequency. last frequency called is stored for easy use should you need to fall back on that frequency. This feature is very useful for aircraft that use the JHP-520 as the only VHF Comm transceiver.

Instant Memory Storage.; A single button push stores any frequency current displayed into memory. Stored frequencies may be scanned, re-designated for memory location or blocked from the scan sequence.

Scanning On command, the JHP-520 will scan Memory, Comm, Weather, or VOR channels only. When an active frequency is located, scanning stops and the JHP-520 displays frequency. If scanning VOR frequencies, the radio also displays radial to the station.
